A proper mid-2000s CCD compact — the Nikon Coolpix 5600, announced in early 2005. Five megapixels off a small CCD sensor, a 3x Nikkor zoom, and a 1.8-inch screen so small you mostly shoot without checking. That combination is exactly why these cameras came back: the crunchy colour, the hard little flash, the slightly soft corners — none of it is something a phone will give you, and none of it is something you can fake in an app afterwards.

In short
Runs on two AA batteries, which are not included — pick up a pair of rechargeable NiMH cells and it will keep going for a few hundred shots at a time. Alkalines work in a pinch but drain fast in any camera of this era. A cheap, honest entry into CCD digicam shooting with the card already in the slot.
